Hady Aswad Comes With Surprises اغنية هادى اسود - حبك مات - جديد 2012

As a person who comes from Palestine, I have grew up appreciating the Bedouin dialect--sometimes it's called the white dialect. Its' the mother dialect where Palestinian, Lebanese, Syrian and Jordanian come from. This might explain why I have enjoyed the new single by Hady Aswad.

Hady was the students who appeared on Star Academy first season--he was turned down. He mhad better luck in the second season in Amman Jordan. Like most, he has enjoyed music since he was a little boy--me too! He hails from Damascus, but moves to Lebanon to refine his music education.

He trained with the star Academy coaches and made few friendships along the way. He was dubbed as the singer with surprises, he came third in that competition. He does romantic and warm songs, but his latest single offer a lot more passion and dance music than he had done in the past.

Listen: Hot Single Assala - Ma Tghiar Shi2 / أصاله - ما تغير شيء

She went to Qatar for this song, a live performance of a never heard song by the Syrian diva cum political activist and TV hostess. She fears no-one and she she knows her way around a live orchestra in a multi-million dollar concert hall.

The stars in attendance are many, but I saw Amal Maher sitting next to Angham chatting as they sat in the audience enjoying the music of Assala. Note, those older men who hog the best seat in the house.  This is an epic poem turned into a classy song by the lady with grace.

I love the music, it's so well-composed and actually does something new by reaching back in time when such music was the only way Arabs knew. It's a triumph for the many of us who like live songs with original content. Those are nearly impossible to make today. It makes one happy and wishes he has more time to listen to this track over and over.

It looks like the night was something to remember  you do not get to see songs like this being made, recorded and made live. This would be the closest thing to us at touching the time when Om Kalthoum took the stage. Prince Badr Bin Abel Mohsen wrote those delicate words, and the music is that of Saleh El Harshy. Whoever really did it, she get a big thank you.

Video: I Double Dare You To Find A Cuter Duet Than This One

they are a couple that has been matched by a number of random elements. He is a music composer with a dreamy voice. She is a young talent from Syria by the way of the United Arab Emirates. She just finished recording voice over songs for a popular TV drama about the life and death of Syrian icon Asmahan. Then she made this cute music video.

The sweet and super sensitive lyrics aside, the music video is just CUTE. While those two are not actors, they pulled the in love looks so convincingly. It's only natural for the music video to be uploaded by countless users. Waad released a good album where her vocal were put to a great use. Diaa keeps busy making melodies for the finest Arab pop stars.  This song was recorded in 2010, but got a wider release in 2011.

The director did a great job making this music video so cute, it makes you want to be part of the story as you watch ans see the games those in love must play. Filmed inside an upscale villa and you can feel the love from the eyes of those two. Furthermore, the saxophone player who worked on the song is worth his weight gold--thanks to Omran!

Listen: Rouwayda Attieh Searching For Syrian Peace رويدا عطية - ابواب السلام 2013

Artists hate war, they have always been like that, and for one Syrian diva Rouwayda Attieh is out with a new song about peace. I cannot make out the politics of the song, but I know it feels human. I know pro president Assad would find it good and the same goes for the revolutionaries.

There is one true bit in it, we have not attacked anyone, they attacked us, occupied our land and then turned around and told us we are the problem. Maybe the Golan heights is on her mind at the moment. I like the reference to the churches and schools where the people are praying for peace.

The song starts strong, my land is seeing a lot of tragedy, enough with the disasters and promises. Enough is enough. Rouwayda Attieh had to be courageous to get involved in this topic, but once a Syrian always one. Her fans are all over the world would agree on this track specially about the dreams of her grandfather. It shows tradition and faith.

The Most Intellectual Rap Album "Khat Thaleth", A Tour Through Arabia In The Wake Of The Revolutions

Link To Download Album
If you wanted to hear a smart and sophisticated political analyses delivered via touching rap songs, then this is the album you cannot miss on. This is the mature album where buyer's remorse are loudly expressed on the Arab Spring and the politicians who are making a killing off it. Palestine is in the center stage but other Arab countries where revolutions are brewing are featured.

While the political weight of hip-hop may have waned and become overrun by commercialization in many parts of the world, over the past two years certain areas throughout the Arab world have witnessed a new wave of politically committed rap. This album is about goring up so much since 2011, the demands of Arab street has not changed much, but politicians have. They have learned that dictators recycle themselves through the revolving door. Luckily, the album is for those who have had enough and are just pure cynical about anything they hear.

With diverse and technical lyricism, eclectic productions and an active listenership, artists have aptly assimilated the art-form and made it their own; picking up microphones as their weapons of choice, supporting, criticizing and, in some cases, actively participating in the Arab revolutions. This a curated album by some of the most prolific artists in this genre.

Following last year’s critically-acclaimed release of Stronghold Sound’s, Sembeh Ma Fa Fe, a landmark compilation of Guinean hip-hop and reggae, the San Francisco-based label continued on to Beirut, Lebanon, where Syrian-American producer, dub Snakkr (Munaqresh) has been based for the past 2 years. With the objective of putting together a new compilation, dub Snakkr connected with some of the most interesting and representative acts in the Arab hip-hop underground.

Khat Thaleth, Third Line: Initiative for the Elevation of Public Awareness is a comprehensive 23-track compilation that covers a wide spectrum of this new wave of conscious rap and features artists from diverse scenes like Palestine, Tunisia, Jordan, Syria, Egypt and Lebanon. The title, “Khat Thaleth”, refers to a third train rail or track, a metaphor for a third way of looking at the polarized political context in the region, as well as a reference to the "hijaz" railroad that used to connect much of the Arab world. Artists team-up, in most cases from different regions and countries, to deliver critical blows to the various political systems in place, and offer sharp social commentary as well as sober realities currently being faced on the ground.

The immense relevance of the unprecedented Khat Thaleth compilation in the Middle East is not only limited to the politically charged content of the verses (full English translations of the lyrics are available online). Artistically, the album also provides us with a glimpse into the avant-garde of some of the most musically adventurous artists and producers in current Arab rap, who smoothly mix their lessons learned from American golden age rap luminaries with their very own folk traditions creating a completely new school of lyricism and production.

I cheer on this album that brings out some of the finest musical styles form all over the world to celebrate a universal message of freedom. I love the very Syrian rap, about the revolution and murder in that country, there are no wrong or right when it comes to Syria--there are only chaos for all involved. The 23 tracks are a delightful tour of all what's hip and relevant in Arab rap. I adore the mixing and layering of the tracks, this is an album made on the highest professional standards by people who take their rap and their messages seriously.

Sometimes I think political science professors would make intellectual rappers, this is how their work would sound had they wrote this album. Frankly, the album captures the pulse of the Arab street to the best one could. America has at least one rapper who make such songs here, Lupe Fiasco. Now we can boast about artists from Arabs with similar political and musical chops.

As for the substance, the album is never too shy from discussing any controversial or polarizing policies or groups--they are an equal-opportunity critics.

البوم مجد القاسم - عيد ميلاده Download: Maged Al Qasem New Kid Birthday Album

Cats, dogs, holidays, soccer, little siblings,, birthday party and the Eid. Are all the common theme of a new pop album meant for kids bought by their parents. The artist behind this album is Magid Al Qasem, the Syrian composer-cum singer.

He recorded his album with the help of his kids whose voices are part of the album. The album comes after years of work and delays. The artist got sick of the too many delays and let his album get a release date. He worried the music will be dated if the album does not get launched soon enough.

On other news, the artist thought the children of Arabia could use such an album at those dark times. I only hope the album is well-made. Cheap work does not hang around for long. This album has been recorded in Egyptian studios where Maged works and lives. He is trying to make a go of his career with the help of the little ones. As you can see there's a lot of green room affects, and little kids just standing in there.

Al Qasim is hardly the first pop star to do an album for children, but he is the first to do so this year. I wish the album and the artist well.

Assala Nasri Brought Down The House On X Factor

She is the elder songstress who looks and feels younger that her peers who are sitting on the panel of judges. None of them can deny how talented she is and how of an important figure she has been. While appearing on the X Factor Assala owned the night and stole the show with her fashionable outfits.

You can tell, her performance of her latest songs were well revived. I have seen her before interview Weal Kfoury on her hit show, but do not know much about the extend of her relation with the other X Factor judges. The lady looks great and her show was a topic during the interview--Assalah gave a shout out to the judges and complimented them.

This Syrian lady knows how to bring down the house. Assalah risked a lot of coming to Beirut to film the show, but she did anyway.

Diab Mashour And His Prison Inmate Song

The sixties and seventies were very kind to one folksy Syrian singer, Diab Mashour who has appeared on a Syrian play/TV show playing the role of the prison's singer. He is connected to Iraq by the river where they share common cultural antidotes. He is an image known for his nice and sweet voice recounting stories from the village. Diab plays the flute, the oud, and the violin

He visited Damascus and played his song to then comedian Duraid Laham who loved his song so very much and asked him to appear on his show. He recorded his song sin Beirut and Jordan and remain classics to this day. Simple songs, the kinds your grandmother would sing you as she puts you to sleep

Diab traveled to the States to do concerts for Arabs there, he has even made it all the way to the Philippians. He composes his songs and performs them, and refuses to represent his older songs to fit with today's tastes.

Elissa, Wael, Hussein and Carole Drama On X Factor

The sixth episode of X Factor Arabia comes the full circle, each of the four judges has assembled his crew and picked the talent pool he or she will be working with and not they will lock them in a closed boot camp for coaching, training and preparation phase to the face-off stage.

Elissa (ladies), Carole (bands), Hussein (older than 25) And Wael (dudes) have already met with their teams and started the program. This is where the drama kicks in and people get fired as each of the judges has to pick just six of his team and bring them to perform  I love how the drama gets people interested  And see how the young talents fight each others on the song choice.

The next stage in the boot camp is the visit to the judges home. There are so many characters on the show and this is is good for the rating--like the chef assistant from Morocco who has such a great voice with an odd flavor. Note how that soda company has vending machines all over the set. Also keep on mind, how the talents on the show try to do cover of songs by the artist judging their act.

Wael will take his team to Beirut, Carole will take hers to Cairo, Elissa is flying them to Istanbul and Hussein is going with his team to Dubai.

It's Raining Cats And Dogs For Egyptian Kids الكات والدوج - مجد القاسم ·

Magd AlKasem is a Syrian singer who was a big deal 17 years ago. He is still out there based in Egypt hoping to score a big hit, so far he has not. But his music career where he composed songs is doing fine. He has not said anything about Syria, which is something smart.

It seems he is now trying to make music for kids--he has few of his own. So he made a song about cats and dogs where his kids also star in the music video on his side. The song has dogs, cats and a monkey  This is a low budget song with a cheap music video.

Toward the end of the song, the two siblings talk about how much they love soccer--sure the boy likes one team and the girl likes another. Both are fans of Al Ahly and Al Zamalik, and they fight each time there is a game. Majid tries to mediate. I like the concept and I am sure the little oens will enjoy the cat and dog one

I Won't Drink Lebanese Arak "Ouzo" Song

The most popular grownup drink in the Great Syrian area is Arak. Araq is a highly alcoholic spirit (~50%-63% Alc. Vol./~100-126 proof) from the anis drinks family. It is a clear, colorless, unsweetened anise-flavored distilled alcoholic drink. It is the traditional alcoholic beverage. It's also popular in Turkey and Cyprus under the name Ouzo!

One Lebanese singer thought to celebrate this drink by singing a folklore song about drinking Arak and smoking a hookah. It's a party song that mentions a number of other alcoholic drinks including Whiskey and Tequila. I have seen people form those countries party, and they do a great job at the bar, smoking lunge and they take the party to the dance floor.

The song is very passionate about someone who is chasing after a lady who is giving him a hard time and making him dance for it.

Music From When Assala Cared More For Her Music Than Her Look

We all like good looks, but when Assala made her big dent on Arabic music she did it through her music and radio voice. But then the rule of the game changed with network TV, the internet and reality TV. Assala is a pioneer on all those. She made music videos when the times asked for them, she made a website and then a Facebook/YouTube channel followed. And now she has her own TV show where she hosts on her home groups of performers together.

But before this era, she worked with names like Hilmi Baker who kept her original and not pop-centered. The music they have given her were a bridge in time lining the Syrian Diva with the golden classical days. But there's little money in that. Money is in pop and in Gulf music so Assala as any business woman made the transition.

I do not see her doing gigs in houses of opera--it's not because of Syria no matter what she says. She still sings around the world. I loved her 2012 album, I thought it has some fresh ideas, but only a song or two have lasting powers  unlike the two songs below from the late 90s, they are the kind of songs everyone wants to copy.

To be honest, this is the first exciting album to be released this year so far. I am waiting for more more awesome album that will land on March 13th. But for now, this is a worthy album, that should keep my music player busy for some time.

This is like a fine dessert, you do not eat it all at once, you savor it and take it one bit at a time. An impressive 12 tracks is the debut of boy wonder of Syrian pop, Nassif has a lot to celebrate. He is back with a variety album that changes styles, melodies and genres.

YouTube links for each of the songs are ready for your ears. This is a very good album that will stick around  Nassif has shown that if a talented young artists gets good advise, and a contract, he will make a very fine album. Syria, has one hell of a pop star who can actually entertain many generations was born three years ago, and now he is ready for his closeup.

WATCH: Syrian Nassif Zeytoun - Larmik Bbalach / ناصيف زيتون - لرميك ببلاش

The best looking and most charismatic Syrian singer Nassif Zeytoun has made one hell of a song and the music video is a piece of art work. This young Syrian showed real talent in making this mature selection. He is going on the right path. I am just happy to see him making a good song that has wide-range appeal.

It's easy to make cheap songs, and dance friendly beats. But to find a song that mushes all this beautifully is no easy task. The music video shows some serious acting cred for this former Star Academy winner. I would say he is the last well-rounded selection before things go sour throughout Arabia.

When you are in love, you should always be on the edge, because if this was so good, you would not it to last, like all things, they come with expiration date. The director is also a new comer, so I am happy to see this meaningful collaboration.

The emotional conflict about love/hate/jealousy and all other things people who have been in love know beat.  His new look, makes him look cool for his age without coming across as someone who has tried too hard. God bless, Syria and its finest entertainers who have guarded the Arab aspirations for generations.

Listen: Nassif Zeytoun "Larmik Bbalach" ناصيف زيتون - لارميك ببلاش - 2013

Ouch, this is the song you can play as you walk away from a relationship that's not working. Thanks to Nassif Zeytoun, the dude hit-maker and Star Academy winner brings it all out with his new slick song. A breakup song that we needed...I love the line

"I Won't Sell you (as give up on you), I will give you away for free" This charming young and talented Syrian has a new image to sell and I love that tattoos with various Arabic words on his left arm. I am certain, some may hear is like a breakup song with president Bashar Al Assad, but it's what it is. A good breakup song made just right.

Pop Star Mohamed Daqdouq And Syrian Nostalgia

Mohamed Daqdouq wrote and composed a song, a great song with some passionate plea for change, the quiet change. It's a very good song, but I am having a hard time understanding the message from this new single by the young Syrian musicians.

I have a feeling that the song is about Syria without being about Syria. Daqdouq declares his love for country and missing the homeland, he also blames all his country's trouble all an unnamed third party. This is the creativity of this track, it does not take sides, but rather tell a very personable story. The story of someone who had had enough and wants a way out.

The song can be more other regions too, Jordan, Libya, Palestine and Iraq. A song about homecoming and being reunited with one's mother. The timing of the song can also be seen for Palestine, as Gaza is being pounded in various Israeli war machines.

Whatever the message is, the song is very touching and I have not heard this kind of heartfelt songs that reside in the heart in a love time. The song is divided into two parts, the original part and the cover portion. Daqdouq delivers his message and then pays homage to Dalida's song about homesickness.

Funny Video: Diana Karazon Imitates Asalah

Big egos do not like others playing them on camera. They hate to see someone--anyone trying to imitate or take up their mannerisms. Every time I see a star talking like another one or singing like her/her, I wonder how soon will they have to call the artist and apologize.

Take the video below where Jordanian pop sensation Diana Karazon was on an interview, where they asked her to sing like she was Asalah. Diana played along and did one heck of a job making Asalah impression down to all the hand movements and the way she conducts herself on stage.

You can see the people in the studio enjoyed that very much. Diana also made sure to declare her love and affection for the iconic Syrian songstress. This is a fun video and Diana showed her fun loving side too. This is one all too fun sport one tribute for one iconic pop diva.

Listen: Assala My Sweet Valnetine Song - Howa Habibi / أصالة - هو حبيبي

Assala is one of those timeless divas whose personal is well known around the Arab world, her music has been around since she was a little girl singing alongside her father. Her love story with her second husband, music producer Tarek is also well known. She made a love song before to this caring and loving (and successfull) music mogul

"He is My Sweetheart", "His presence in my life is the grandest gift", a dreamy song that comes from a loving heart and a lady who seems to be a loyal soul. Assala Nasri is one of those voices that will be in our memory for a long time. I am looking at a modern day diva in the making, she will surely have a place in the history of the Arabic song.

I like the sweet emotions she channels, the song sounds real and it's not lacking on the passion. Assala has no issue declaring her love to the public, and we know she cares less for what people think of her. Great job, lady you keep Arabic music fun for so many of us.

WATCH: Samo Zaen's Dark Valentine Song - Hat3raf / سامو زين - هتعرف

I do not hate Valentine Day, but I do hate Valentine Day lame romance songs. On this day everyone tries to bring out the best romantic version of themselves. Sometimes you really do not have it and you need to know that. Otherwise, we will suffer as a result of your lack of knowledge about your skill.

Samo Zaen kept talking about this song for more than a year, and now it comes out. This is not a love song, this is a depression inducing song. He is a fun guy whose fans make him feel like a million dollar. Egy[t hears him and so do the boys and gals there. While he had many good romantic songs in the past,  "Hat'eraf" his latest track is not one of them.

It's a slow song, perfect to dance your last couple dance right before you both go your separate ways. This is not a Valentine day, it's way too dark....I am guessing this is Samo Zaen's anti-Valentine day song.

P.S. Doesn't the new picture for Samo, make him look a little bit like Lebanese Waleed Tawfeek?

Alif Ensemble Spices Up Arabic Music

Good bands start out by being the fruit of the labor of many friends who think they are good enough to entertain. Hence, comes Alef Ensemble, a band that emerged from a broad spectrum of talent from all around the Arab world. The namesake draws inspiration from the Arabic Alphabet and team up talents from from Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Egypt and Iraq.

Oud-centered music by Khyam Allami, in partnership with two of the most resourceful and independent Arabic musicians of today, Palestinian composer and vocalist Tamer Abu Ghazaleh and Egyptian electronica musician Maurice Louca, the Alif Ensemble is a pan-Arabic collaboration. Many are the bands that take credit for brining varying musical styles. But in the core of Alif Ensemble one finds both traditional and contemporary Arabic music disciplines, including percussionist Khaled Yassine (Lebanon) and bassist Khaled Omran (Syria).

Their strong suits include contemporary Arabic poetry by writers including the late Iraqi-Assyrian poet Sargon Boulus (the first time his words have been set to music in Arabic) and late Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish. Young people appreciate poetry, but they love it if music accompanied it.

Their efforts have already caught the eyes of the global press, the UK's The Wire magazine witnessed their first ever performance and came to described the Alif Ensemble as: "a vehicle for original composition, attuned to the traditions of Arabic music, but applying a rock dynamic to their delivery."

Something that allowed the band to perform in the  summer 2012 at many UK based music festivals. The Wire went on, “The dominant Alif character is one of a collective sound, each member working at the service of the compositions, rarely stepping forward to solo, and usually sounding equally balanced,"

Few things can motivate musicians like good press, but a great audience always helps. This is a band that offers two different things, the Western listener can appreciate the dealing musical instruments and Arabic twists. The Arab listener will enjoy the poetry and the the throwback music
