He has a good voice, nice dance moves, he is animated and dresses well. He is a young Egyptian pop sensation that goes by the name Wassim El Naggar. He is out with a new single made for dance. I like the beat. It's exciting for young talents to see their first music videos, always has been this way.

He has a style and she held his own ground in the music video--he did not make it into a nude show which is refreshing. I just feel the music video could use some better lighting and a better story perhaps. I know the teen girls and young women will find the music video to be fun. This is a clip about a guy telling the girl she is driving him mad.

I feel good about Wassim who is unafraid to come across as a goof ball, he is just out to have some fun and being himself. He has two outfits, the one he wears at the club and the sport outfit from a guy who likes cars. So this is the balance. the soft and the rugged looks are all in one place. The lyrcis are light hearted and seem to have been written by a relative of Wassim. The music is the work of the singer himself.

The Muslim Entertainer Mohamed Abbas Is Egypt's New Face Of Indie Music فك الكلابش - محمد عباس

A name one needs to know is the indie artist from Egypt Mohmed Abbas, he is indie because he is that young voice who speaks about social injustice without being angry, jaded or political. And if this is not a delight, he has great music and a very intimate style that we have not heard in Egypt in a really long time. This is a breath of fresh air because Abbas is a popular Muslims Munshid that means he does hymns like songs with religious tone. Those have been popular as more and more networks are dedicated to such material. I welcome him to the ring.

His style is similar to that of Sheikh Imam and Sayed Darwish, while he is brand new, his fans are there each time he performs--he has an upcoming concert in a mall. I am a fan of his voice expresses a great deal of sadness underneath his lines--it's like a not very angry volcano.

The sitting of his music video is the well known Egyptian cafes where people go to tell stories and relax. A charming music video for a wonderful song that needed to be sang. Mohamed is a cool dude in my book. He tells the stories of the people who work hard to get by, there are far too many beautiful tales that needed to be told.

Release me from you handcuff, aka unshackle me is the title of this song from the new comer Abbas. I like the feel good the song brings, it talks about many topics in a poetic style.

The Cute Song By The Sandy About Her Boy Toy

Sandy knows why she is popular, the way she dresses and the way she sells her ditsy image. From the get go, Sandy went for the people who like sexy, she gave them that. Her songs are fun pop songs no classics. She does have a natural limit and she seems to stick to it.

But when it comes to dressing and being bold Sandy has always pushed the envelop. But she is also smart, she toned it down the moment the Arab Spring arrived. She still shows some skin, but no playboy fantasies. She has never shied away form the competition, she took on the older pop divas and challenged them. Sandy has also entered the Lebanese pop domain where the image is as important as the performance.

Her album was released in the summer, and it has few good songs--simple songs with a catchy tune. but one of the underrated songs on the album is the one below. Sand has now been doing pop albums since late 2007 and she has consistently gotten better. She has transformed herself from a one note-one style wonder into more serious songs.

Why Arab Idol Needs Mohammed Assaf (محمد عساف) To Win

There's a skinny Palestinian guy from Gaza on Arab Idol, and he is making all the news. The judges love this very talented guy. He is a super star and no one can take this from him. His voice is so strong yet so tender. The question is, will he take the title back to Palestine?

He seems to be the best voices on the program, and I have heard and seen a lot of other talents who are very talented, but none of them has the back-story like Assaf does. He is not supposed to be on the show, but he made it and did he dazzle the fans?

Tell you what while he was on the show, he gave many people around the Arab World a reason to smile at those dark times. While far too many Arab states are seeing murder and fear upon them, None has seen it for as long as Gaza has. All suffering is painful, that does not make it easier. But Assaf is a rare talent, he is from a different bread. You give him a song and this guy brings it back to live and puts so much effort to entertain and stay loyal.

He clearly has blown away many Egyptian when he first performed that Abdel Halim song, he was the bomb. He got four yeses from the critical judges. Then he moved on to Lebanon where he did some of their better known songs....and you can see the Lebanese judges were speechless and handed him all the yeses they have.

I will watch him and will speak-up if he had a bad day, but so far out of the three songs he has covered, he won fair and square. There are 27 other talent on the show, I can see him being a finalist and a contender for the title. See him take on the stage and do his bit--it was the toughest part of the song and he did the high and low notes so well--it was a riot.

The Ramallah native, the 23 year old up and coming pop star Lian Bazlamit has been thinking of bigger things than herself. Palestine, her love and her home. She has a new song that touches your heart and wamrs your soul. Something about the topic, brought the best we have heard Lian be. This is a personal song with a lot of heartache as one listens.

We still sing to Palestine since 1948, and will continue to do so. Lian is shaping up her career to be the best entertainer to come out of Palestine and continue to claim it as a homeland. Lian lives in Jordan at the moment where she goes to school.

I must show some respect to the lyricist and the composer, they have created a good thing here, something that Lian turned into a special song that will live on and be a credit to this young entertainers' career. She came a long way form her early days on Star Academy two years ago. She chose the right moment to release this song, land day in Palestine....every March 31, we are there.

Joseph Attieh used his time on Star Academy well. Among his peers he has survived the post show fame and focused on building up his brand. He is a cool, and a lovable entertainer. He is drama free and works in silence, he speaks when he have something new to say.

We now know, he can sing romantic/dance/and Tarab style songs. But he is also a killer drummer, and he has surprised many with his direction of one of his hits. But largely  he has done most of his songs using the Lebanese dialect--his own. He has largely manged to do two things, be the dream boat voice for the young people. and be that fantasy for the older women who still think he is cute.

This time he is back with a new single about happy couple who are asking for blessings as they move in together, hoping to start a family. Joseph chose this song, or it chose him in the Egyptian dialect. I love the beat, and how the song is planned out, there is the happy Arabic dance stuff, but also the club people will like it as it has some house mix.

It's the month of March and it seems Arab singers remember their mothers and release songs on this very socially day--celebrated universally in the Arab world. We may disagree on Valentine day, but on Mother's day we all turn into the best version of our selves.

For the first time, we have a real mother singing with her son on this day where both of them celebrate motherhood. Then a charming Egyptian singer-cum-composer Ramy Sabry releases his beloved homage song. And the party guy of Lebanon Joe Ashkar stands tall as he sings for his mother--he is a father. He released this song later in 2012 and it had an odd time, but it was coming from a warm place.

Jaroudi Media Attracts Talented Arab Singers

A business man with the name Youssef Jaroudi wanted to produce Lebanese entertainment so, he started a production company and went on to sing few names from home. Voices that can add to the Lebanese music scene.

Jaroudi Media will be working and investing in music, music videos, lyrics composing, and music arrangements. So, a number of B list and otherwise talented singers have singed up with Jaroudi. While mos production companies have shut down for the moment, Jaroudi is hoping to make a profit where others have failed. 

The founder seems fond of orchestra music and good times songs from Lebanon, among their biggest finds is collaborating with the iconic composer/singer Samir Sfier on two songs that will be releasing soon. Jaroudi's mantra is quality over quantity, music that promotes peace and harmony.

I am uncertain how profitable/how busy the company will be, but I like what they are trying to accomplish. They have already made two amazing music videos....

Elissa, Wael, Hussein and Carole Drama On X Factor

The sixth episode of X Factor Arabia comes the full circle, each of the four judges has assembled his crew and picked the talent pool he or she will be working with and not they will lock them in a closed boot camp for coaching, training and preparation phase to the face-off stage.

Elissa (ladies), Carole (bands), Hussein (older than 25) And Wael (dudes) have already met with their teams and started the program. This is where the drama kicks in and people get fired as each of the judges has to pick just six of his team and bring them to perform  I love how the drama gets people interested  And see how the young talents fight each others on the song choice.

The next stage in the boot camp is the visit to the judges home. There are so many characters on the show and this is is good for the rating--like the chef assistant from Morocco who has such a great voice with an odd flavor. Note how that soda company has vending machines all over the set. Also keep on mind, how the talents on the show try to do cover of songs by the artist judging their act.

Wael will take his team to Beirut, Carole will take hers to Cairo, Elissa is flying them to Istanbul and Hussein is going with his team to Dubai.

It Took Charming Salah Al Zadjali To Warm Up Khaliji Music

He came from Oman and stood to be the limelight recently for his pop style songs on Arabic music TV channels. This guy had the gulf dancing their tales off to his hip songs all summer long. He is now back to the past doing folklore songs that will beef his credit with the music appreciators among the old men.

Salah has not professionally training, but this has never stopped great people from making timeless music. His passion for music that led him to pursue this route. He points out that it was his father who encouraged him and as Salah defines himself ’a self-taught’ individual, it was also a combination of his skills and him meeting the right people at the right time that gave him his lucky break. The best musicians are self-taught, you cannot teach creativity and the land of Oman can be inspirational.

Salah believes that on of the factors that catapulted him into the media’s glare was the fact that Omani musicians are under represented in the Gulf music industry, and him being one gave him an edge. He sees the lack of Omani music is the fault of the absence of good production companies. And yes, local talents are not given an opportunity to shine.

Even though there are singers emerging from Oman but there are not enough institutions to train potential musicians. It seems the ruler of the land offers his support  ’His Majesty Sultan Qaboos does appreciate music and he encourages classical music and we have two professional orchestras. The Royal Symphony and the Oriental recently formed a music society and soon we will have a grand opera house which shall have a huge department for music development.

While Salah is too busy making fun tracks for the larger Gulf market, his heart remains at home with his people.

Mohamed Maghraby is the dark horse of Arabic romance music. The son of the Egyptian city of Alexandria who appeared on the Star Academy 7th season is kicking off 2013 with a new single showcasing his uniq blend of pop and heartfelt emotional patriotic songs.

Other pop stars were impressed with his warmth and spoke in favor of the young entertainer. Mohamed Maghraby credits his loving family and friends who have helped him grow and reveal his personal style. He is a talented guitar player, and has showed his acting chops as well.

I appreciate the new song, and think if the time is right, the artist would have a no issue getting a recording deal, but things are tough all around. I hope he sticks around, makes few good songs and make his fans happy all over again.

Raed Meqdad: Rich And Mediocre Or Resepcted And Poo

He is Palestinian and he can sing beautifully. And his name is Raed Meqdad. A Palestinian by the way of London. Raed won the title for a singing competition in London back in 1998, then he went on to study music and he knows how to play the lute. A singer by career, and a musician by training is the way to stand out.

He has a pleasant voice that blends some many well-known voices--think Marwan Khoury, Saber El Robaei Abdel Fattah Greiny and Baha Sultna rolled into one person. He made his debut in 2007 with a music video for a song he filmed and directed in Beirut. I think this is a good comfort zone, the album might have landed unnoticed, it doe snot mean that Raed does not have a game. I see a bright future for the young capable star.

Raed followed it up with another single. Until this year when he released his new album with the help of a number of seasoned composers and lyricists including Khalid Nabil and Mostafa Mahfouz.

While there are many romantic songs on the album that I have come to enjoy, I like the pop and dance ones too like "Beidary Ghramou" Raed does have to define his brand, doing different songs helps identify the star, but being all over the map does not help retain a highly distracted audience. He can do pop and he can also do Tarab songs primed for concerts. So he can be cool and hip with average songs, or he can be legendary respected and not rich.

For a guy who was a runner up on the Star Academy program, Ahmed Ezzat came a long way. He did not have his moment under the sun. The time he spent on the show was not the perfect time for Egypt and the rest of Arabia, but the young gentleman has made the most of it...

He kept releasing singles, in a year since he left the show, we have seen him sing four times, and three of those times, he was lucky with his choices. This Valentine day he has anew single for the ladies who  have come to adore him and his look. This new single feels special because the singer is the same creative force behind the lyrics and the music the song comes with. This is an original  I like that more and more Arab singer are doing more than performing their songs.

This time, he is confessing that he loves her every second. It's a bit dramatic song, it might be a song for a movie, when we know the backs troy, but as of right now as a guy, I am not feeling the song. But I think there are those who would be satisfied with his choice here.

Video: Mohammad Mazen, Another Jordanian Stud Breaks Out

Yalla! One more voice for the road, one more young Jordanian stud comes out of the woods and take a shot at pop music. The guy sounds mature and his voice so so sobering, he does not sound like a little boy, but a man who has checks and balances. He is happy when he has to be and he is in charge when he is feeling down.

The name is Mohammad Mazen and his voice tells me many things about the artists, I can tell he is a good listener of Arabic music, his voice has taken form so many great artists both young and old his music reminds me of the 80s TV show bands.

His is a debut song many young singers wish for, a romantic song that pleases both men and women. You really cannot help but notice his Jordanian dialect creeps into the song. The dialect is unique as it's sort of a Lebanese version of what they speak in the Gulf. But the song delivers what the artists hoped it would.

Ahmed Mekky And Donya Collaborate Again

They starred together in a number of movies, they made lots of money form their sharing the big screen. Then they made a TV comedy that won people over. Now after rumors of trouble in Paradise  funnyman and rapper Ahmed Mekky is collaborating once again with his muse Donya Samir Ghanem.  Donya is working on a new album, she has released two singles before. Since Mekky has a rap album under his belt and he has sang alongside Donya in their movies theme songs, they will singer again together.

Ahmed Mekky has been reported to have written a number of songs for the album, the album will have eight tracks. It sounds like Donya is working on a pop project with household names like poet Ayman Bahgat Amar attached. Donya has made some waves every time she sang, and people were aksing her to release an album it took a while, but the album is almost ready now.

Ziad Maher: The Fresh Face of Lebanese Pop Stands Up

Ziad Maher dubs himself as an original artist, that he strives original ideas in his music. He wears sunglasses in the dark kind of original. He studied music and instruments professionally even thought he comes from a family with an established business in cloth and textile. He is an opinionated singer with an admiration of classical Arabic music and European line of thinking.

So it's natural for him to have an MBA. He has released two albums out and about 18 songs ready for release that he has produced. He is happy not to sing in concerts of restaurants, this is his plan all along. Read more in depth interview with him here. He seems to have been distracted with too many things, but this time he is ready to concentrate of his music and I cheer him on. He will never give up his business, he seems to like being busy and industrious.

he is taking drugs, standing aimlessly by walls, he commits suicide to be near the one he loves. Dark is the word that comes to mind. He found her in the afterlife waiting for him. Then comes the surprise, she pushes him away back to the land of living--he survives his attempted suicide. The clip ends with a cliche  philosophical message, death is not the end it's the beginning.   

I think Ziad is a talented voice who can own the stage and do different music that we have not seen in a really long time. His influence by the Egyptian music school is clear. He does have a plan where he wants to earn fans before signing with a production company. I think having a side career is a plus for any artists, it liberates them from being controlled by production companies.

Again, well done on the clip idea, it's something we have not seen done before, so original he is. I am ready to hear Ziad do a happy song for us and see we can laugh with him--we already know he can make us cry.

Ghaith Jaweesh Half Party/Half Romance

He is the guy who can write you very gentle poems, and the guy who can sing like he is about to cry. He is a young talent and his name is Ghaith Jaweesh. The track below mkaes him sound ike the none-threatening male type. That means he wins you with his tears and his words, not his muscles and manly antics.

I respect that he writes his own lyrics, he shot to fame when he appeared on TV and came to the Syrian spotlight. I came to like his older folksy type songs (watch here), but he does have a soft spot. He is an all Syrian by heart, his looks scream so.

Suzan Harb Wages Her Own Pop War

Girl pop makes all the difference, and Suzan Harb knew that when she released her debut song to the masses. It's a light sweet song where you might shake your heads, it is not meant to be that classic, but no one makes those anymore. Suzan knows the PR game as her press release can be found all over the Arab internet along with her cute pictures.

So this is her first single as the works on a new album which is set for summer 2013. Let's be clear, grown up women might not like this song but I know the young and young at heart will cheer it. To bad, I am not able to tell if she is Egyptian or Lebanese and that might be a good thing.

New Comer Ahmed Abdel Fattah Blooms Early

It's never a good sign when I search for a singer and fail to find a picture, a Facebook page for the artist. If he or sh do not make it easy for me to find them, chances are, I am not the only one. Sure some have common names, like the artist below, but still there has to be a way where they can link their names with the name of their song.

Get this new comer, a young Egyptian skinny guy who is out with a new music video offering to romance you while he reconciles his past.  I like the indie feel the clip and the song have, the lyricist is the same person as the music video director Sami Bsat. I like the vague rock music that one can hears in the song.

I like this song and think the comments from people on YouTube speak volumes of how well people received any given song.

The Best Crying Songs Come From Syria Aghead Al Yosef

Iraq used to be the place where the finest blues are made--it's still the place for the most part. But Syria's stocks in sad songs are growing and I am noting more and more of them fine bluesy songs are coming out of Syria. The land has been living under barrage, attacks and revolution for more than two years, so sadness is all over the map.

A young voice from that land with the name Aghead Al Yosef made available a new single. Those singers are well known for followers of the Syrian song, they are no happy pop songs for sure. Some people like to feel sorry for themselves, and such songs make is alright to do so. Aghead is a native in the city of Tartous, a well known Syrian seaport.

Agheed's song is about tears and down on your look style songs. Syrian artists are extremely talent few, the production lets them down and the lack of sophisticated media operation does them no good.
