DOWNLOAD: Massar Egbari New Album البوم فريق مسار اجبارى - اقرا الخبر

Aside from making perhaps the coolest and most artsy and meaning rich album cover, Indie band Massar Egbari makes delightful music, and their new album "Eqra El Khaber" or "Read This News" shows the band has morphed into something huge. Not to mention how the band also has one of the catchiest names MASSAR EGBARI means “Compulsory Detour”, which resembles the society we live in today. They specifically chose this title as it explains how we are expected, or rather, dictated to behave and dress in certain manners. Both, in title and in spirit, the band pokes fun at typical social norms and trends, which is clearly reflected in their music and chosen lyrics.

In 2007 the band made its international debut and has traveled the Arab world (and Turkey) taking their music into new lands. I have come to appreciate their balance in finding good lyrics, and fresh sounding music--while they sound a bit more Western than Egyptian, their stories will always be told in Egypt for some time to come.

It seems that their music constantly gets better, the more live shows they book. They really inject a lot of excitement in the indie music scene  and by the way other than ticket sales and record, they have not gone commercial like doing soda and hair gel ads. This allows them to concentrate on their music, and perfecting their craft. I have also loved how they keep away form politics, yet kept up their connection with the people and their woes.

You get a little funk, a little jazz, some rock and a hell of a ride the minds of the band members have created. I appreciate the variety in vocalists the band features. Unlike many other indie bands in Egypt, MASSAR EGBARI has more than on vocalist who can hook listeners. I love the songs I listened to so far, El-Mroor if funky. The title song plays like a lounge music yet its lyrics are very dark about unemployment. This album is a successful attempt to declare the band's inception into the mainstream.

Listen: Yuri Mrkadai's Best Song In A Decade

I danced, I cheered and I got in the zone when I heard this song first. But this song keeps getting better the more I listen to it. Yuri is not 20 years old anymore and he does not care to make average pop songs that no one remembers. He makes contemporary classics rooted in poetry but also offering upbeat music.

He makes no secrets about his love and admiration for Arab women, always has. But his comeback singles more exciting lyrics and really impressive mixing. The way he reads poetry, sings then slows down to read more poetry only to go back into the singing mode perfect the song.

Mrkadai's songs are meant for gentlemen who want to get closer to women in the classic fashion. It's not a shame to be outsmarted by them--the song is about a fighter who has never lost a a battle until he has met her. She handed him his first defeat and he was proud of this defeat.

Listen: Ramy Essam - Gika رامى عصام - جيكا عايش

Ramy Essam, the activist who likes to sing and rock. Released yet another song calling for change and promoting the more secular parties in Egyptian politics--the very ones that failed to win. Ramy sort of have moved into Tahrir Square and made it his home. He has performed there many times, and have become the voice of the revolutionaries and the source of their entertainment.

He has his heavy base, and the song is in the third person using the voice of the Shaheed--the fallen. Where those who have been murdered in cold blood ask Ramy not to give up the fight and continue the protest till bring justice and freedom. This song I like, but when Ramy goes on the attack attacking certain factions he loses me.

WATCH: Mat Elkalam Cairokee اغنية كايروكى - مات الكلام

Egypt's hottest and biggest rock band started as an indie band till they all of a sudden got big. Commercial money started flowing, promoting soft drinks, energy drinks and just about anything. They are covted on TV shows and asked to comment on all things Egypt. They have toured the world and back, and still they are still the most popular band in Egypt.

Their fan base keeps on growing, and they sort of reach out for the cool aisle. More and more they are focused on their look, and outfits. New haircuts and grooming are in order, they now look like every other mainstream American band. What still sets them apart is their lyrics, passion and messages about changes in Egypt.

They are back with a new song that serves as the soundtrack for an upcoming indie film about the Revolution in Egypt. This is an A list film with top talents, the song is way out there, about the meaning of change and to quote, the nightmare in your dreams.

They pick on the security officers in Egypt, their torture and abuse methods. And doing all that in an abandoned building. But do not worry their guitar and vocals are still on the money. This is the anti-establishment, it sets Egypt as the people vs. everyone else including the politicians and people with authority. Amir Eid wrote the dazzling lyrics and I tell you they sound as a shot in the ear. Their fire in the belly is still on.

Listen: Fadi Andrawos 2013 Single / ما بعرف كون - فادى أندراوس

Fadi Andrawos is the original indie rock star from Lebanon by the way of Palestine. He is one of those artists that have always found their own path. He is not the one to hold a contract, put on a suite and talk to some company. He just wants to make music, as he likes to be free.

This is why he rocks in both English and Arabic, and he is flawless in both languages  He has some hard metal chops, he enjoys that look very few Arab stars can pull off. And yes, he is a musician, and a rebel inside. Where in his new song, he is asking to be loved the way he is--unconditionally.

He sings, if you want to love me, let me be me! I love his style and have come to admire his creative process. He makes music that crosses cultures, and sings lyrics that crosses the gender boundaries. His style is getting around Arabia just not...many Egyptians indie artists are taking his approach. Fadi is never controversial  he is just distinct, you cannot really copy him. He does not offend, and neither does he ask people to be like him instead, he seeks to live and let live.

Such artists are perfect for live interactive concerts, because they make the experience more vivid and real. He approaches his music as if he was a regional star with a global sight--like most rock stars in Latin America. Local is the new universal. Fadi might not be on a TV near you, but his near cult fellowship has stuck by his side for years.

Download: Carole Samaha New Hit Album البوم كارول سماحة - احساس

If there is one pop star in the Arab world that takes her albums seriously, I would chose Lebanese diva Carole Samaha. There are many others who are serious about making music, but very few of them invest in their music, most of them find someone else to pay for their songs. Carole goes her own path, hires the best names and tells them to be serious.

She gives her finest performances in the new album, with 13 tracks that come in different styles. She has written at least song songs in the album herself. She has traveled far and close to ensure her album is all her. She got Rotana to distribute her album--they really worked hard to ear her trust.

I have so far heard three songs, and boy are we in for a treat! This is one super ride, like a curated tour in world music with special focus on Arabic styles from the past. Salim Assaf worked on it, and so has Marwan Khoury and the golden touches of music producer Michael Fadel do show. Go to iTunes, and get yourself a copy--when made available. It should release on the 13th of this month 13 after 2013 and 13 tracks. She is unafraid of bad luck.

Smooth and bold is this album.

Rock Stars Cannot Govern Nor Can They Rule

Rock music is about saying no to the man, it's about defying the powers and the authority. But to run a country, you are given powers and authority to apply the rule of law. Naturally, rock stars do not like rules and did hate to be told what to do.

So while Morsi is trying to run the government of Egypt, its people and institutions, some out there are on the streets protesting. They want him in less than six month to bring miracles, to bring order to a very chaotic surrounding. While he has done a fair share of mistakes, I think the people of Egypt--or the ones protesting in the streets are being too quick to jump the gun.

I had those thoughts when I was watching the latest live version of Cairokee's popular song "Spread Your Wings", a rock song about realizing one's true call and living their potential. While clever lyrics are to be celebrated, songs do not really run a country. The politics is messy, we can have heroes all we want, but at the end, they will have to take some steps. Those steps will never be approved by everyone. So difference and resentment is a human nature.

What we cannot do is be violent to one another. Like those police in the streets of Egypt beating up protesters  You should not be doing that. On the flip side, thugs and bullies are also on the streets and those should not be mistaken for real citizens who have concerts for the direction of the country. Cairokee is one of many bands that has engaged in making music about dreams and aspirations, I think this is the right time for such bands to make songs about giving peace a change.

I have no doubt in my mind that Morsi loved Egypt and those who support him love her as much. And yes, those who are protesting him believe in Egypt too and care for it. When the dust settle I do not want to see Egyptians bringing destruction to the Egypt we all love.

Indie Music Cannot Move Past The Spirit Of January 2011

More than two years have passed and the indie music scene is still milking the January  revolution for all it's worth. The last band to join the exploitation is 050 Band--one of the hardest working bands in the post Mubarak years.

Their latest single is about how the spirit of January is still kicking around, the motherland has not heeled yet. I do not know if they will ever stop making music about this topic, but for the common man it might be one too many songs about something that has already happened yet make little sense.

050 band has achieved in very short months a great deal of fame that comes with fan base. This Arabic rock Band From Mansoura , Egypt  has manged to release the Middle East No.1 Song @ TripleW ME Charts and Middle East No.2 Band. Their cool name is inspired by their native town's area code. As for the band members, they are a group of friends who like to play guitar and sing.

Andrew W.K. Is America's Cultural Ambassador To The Middle East

Because drones, military force and tanks do not make good ambassador of America's wide cultural landscape. One rocker can build bridges and make the Middle East fall in love with America all over again by partying loudly.

In surprising and odd news of the day, the U.S. Department of State of has named Andrew W.K. the Cultural Ambassador to the Middle East. He is  an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, entertainer, motivational speaker, and music producer. He is the host of the television series Destroy Build Destroy. In November 2012, he was named a United States cultural ambassador to Bahrain. As a musician, he is perhaps best known for the 2001 hit single "Party Hard", from the album I Get Wet. Bahrain is an island, so he would have to get wet. Andrew has also lived and grew up in Ann Arabs where many Arab immigrants also live.
"This is a tremendous invitation," W.K. said in a statement on his website. "I'm very thankful to the Department of State for giving me the opportunity to visit a place I've never been before. And I feel very privileged and humbled by the chance to represent the United States of America and show the good people of Bahrain the power of positive partying. I can hardly wait for this adventure!"
The performer's website reports that W.K. will visit the Middle East "to promote partying and positive power." The story also explains that "Andrew will begin his journey the first week of December, 2012 and will visit elementary schools, the University of Bahrain, music venues, and more, all while promoting partying and world peace." Partying does help bring peace, but if the music is too loud the cops will shoe up and things may get hairy.
W.K. once told HuffPost his personal tag line would be, "I'm not here to impress you, I'm here to party with you."

This is Good Mostafa Mahfouz - Wala Ay Endihash / مصطفى محفوظ - ولا أي إندهاش

Mostafa Mahouz is one of my all time favorite pop personas, the guy who makes good music for some of the coolest pop songs in Egypt has made his own path in the singing business through releasing singles every now and then. He made so many of them since 2008 and I have noticed them all, I have loved 9 out of the ten he made. I know this song would be something else, it has character and attitude.

Now he just releases yet another single, about his woes with the lady he has been working on for the past two years. The song is a typical song made by a guy from the guy's perspective ...I made it you cool he taunts the lady and taught her many things. "I made you walk around with a 16 gigabit iPad", "I showed you all the cool shows, and took you to the sea" Guys like to think in this way, like if they are doing good out there and not self-interested. I am certain there are ladies out there who take advantage of some guys, but most of those guys are not fool.

I like the song but I do not endorse his tone nor his lyrics  This is a catchy and a relevant pop song, like they make them here in the States. That means, there are too many pop and cool references are made throughout the song, you might even laugh at some part of the song. So no one can take that away from Mahfouz. The title is pretty call, "The Ultimate Surprise...Not"

Note how the middle has the now sensational music style with the help of the Auto-tune known as "Mahraganat" think ghetto music. This type of music is going mainstream and helps stars reach out to new fans out there.

Watch: Coke Bastardize Egyptian Indie Bands كليب أتجنن - كاريوكى و عايدة الايوبى

It's a sad day when the brightest rock music band in Egypt--and most indie one gets picked to do a song for Coca Cola. The insult does not end there, Coca Cola also hires Aida Ayoubi as she makes her way back into the music scene. I know it's a tough market out there, and that soda giant knows this very well...so they bribe those entertainers to try to appeal the young angry and indie spirit Egypt is experiencing those few past years.

Cairo, and Aida are awesome musicians, they come from tow different eras with very passionate and rebellious songs. I do not like to drink soda and wish less people would drink it, but I like the music of those two acts. But wait, a third act joined the party, Egypt's hottest rapper Zap Tharwat also gets his moment under the soda sun.

This is the promotional music video for the soda company and it's a really good song....Let Yourself Go, says the song....and that's what will happen if you drink too many sodas...Get crazy says the song and don' worry about people and what they say....they will say you are fat once you had too many sodas. Amir Eid, the lead of Cairokee wrote this song! He is a lyrical boy wonder.

I love how soda company try to get culture through music....and those bands like the extra cash they get in exchange for their music and promotional endorsements. There's a happy smiley face, balloons and such. You will balloon yourself if you keep drinking sodas. And yes, you are too crazy if you substitute sodas for health drinks.

Divas Gotta Eat Angham New Single اغنية انغام - ياريت | تتر مسلسل فى غمضة عين

Egyptian all star Angham is one of the finest female voices in that country. She has been rocking it for about thirty years ever since she was a little girl with funny teeth that sang next to her father. Now that she has made it, and has a claimed a diva stature, she has to calculate every steps she makes. I like that she has been doing different songs, and she is now dabbling into acting with a TV drama.

She has also sang the soundtrack song, because what good being a diva is if you are not getting a check? The song is about things you want from life, less pain, more joy and off course easier life, and more love please. The drams which she co-starred in just begun to air. The other star is actress Dalia El Bihiri who has admitted that she has no chemistry with Angham, but nevertheless the had to work together despite their differences.

Somethings never change, among those things Angham's voice and delivery, she is always the same, for some this is a delight. I have enjoyed Angham's songs especially the bluesy ones. The new single style fits the style most want Angham to cover. Others have criticized her for doing pop computer affects songs. So, the melody for the title song is very Arabic and very fitting.

I Ain't No Knight And Shining Armor By 050 Band

Girls are expected to be on the lookout for the knight that will sweep her off her fee, make her feel like a million dollar and keep her safe. You will win her over if she can do that. But rock music likes to pull a buzz kill often. Pop does this idealistic image, rock mocks that image and tells you life can still be worth it--even with some imperfection.

Guys tend to have different images and different expectations for them ladies, and that's why they took on rock and roll music to tell a different story--far from perfect one. Unlike pop and romance music, rock does not engage in false advertising, let's not waste time in talking and spring into action.

What Would It Take For Ramy Essam To Go Away? اغنية رامى عصام - ثورة 2013

Ramy Essam had a good run since the revolution in Egypt took place. The singer activist who has spent much of his time in Tahrir Square protesting varying things at varying times. I have grown fond of his music and rock style. I really love his sense of humor and his faith in the power of words.

But has his time expired already? I do not know that, but I am feeling Ramy has made many great songs and his mini album was pretty good. But then he has started to hate any and everything the Egyptian president does. Morsi is not Mubarak, he might be different, but he is no dictator. He has won a four year term and he should be giving space to perform.

Sure, protesting him is great, but in a civil manner. You are not serving the democratic process by calling him to leave or asking him to resign. He should not have too, there are other forces in Egypt and he is not the sole power in Egypt--checks and balance are great.

It's really easy to be a rebel and express frustration in all things, but what is really hard is getting things done. What's really hard is trying to work against thirty years of an outdated system and laws. Ramy Essam is an idealist and that's a good thing, but he has no political experience or special knowledge  He is an average citizen with a guitar. Morsi does not speak about music and arts, by the same token people who sing for living should not pretend that are smarter than the person on the wheel.

After four years Morsi should asses and the people will either give him another contract or fire him. Now Ramy Essam's new single Thawarah  is meant to commemorate the second anniversary of the revolution. The song calls to let the people govern, not be subjects. Easy words, but the same people have already chosen a leader. Ramy is not the only one who loves Egypt, there are countless others who love the land as much as he does.

Ramy and people like him made the revolution possible. Now, they should take a break from being upset all the time and do something constructive like turning their fan base into a volunteer initiative to make Egypt streets clean. Feeling bad for oneself is not a good way to build a nation.

Abdel Halim Hafez Finest Track Mix

You do not listen to Abdel Halim Hafez music if you want to dance, you play him as background music, music that allows you to listen and talk. Doing two things at the time time is best done to the music of Abdel Halim Hafez, this iconic romance hit maker of the 60s and 70s lives on thanks to the Internet where all his songs have ended.

Millions of views is what most of his songs get, this is something you play over and over as you try to get stuff done. Work in your office, drive your car, talk to people. But most of all if you want to grow a heart, you play this man's songs. He will guide you on real-world emotions and romance.

His performances are nothing short of genius dazzle fest. Like all great things in life, they have to come to an end. While his life has ended at young age, his legend lives on through us. It's not like he makes good music, it's more that good music comes through him to us....and it hits the designated spot every time he hold a microphone and stands in front of an audience.

Enjoy this playlist for some of his better known songs who represent a right of passage for most Arabs emotional development.

WATCH: Zap Tharwat ft. Amir Eid Take Morsi To Task | حقي

C'mon people, a bus was in an accident with Egypt, those kind of accidents are horrible but they do happen more often than not--even in places like the West. So those who like to pretend to be upset with  the Egyptian government use that accident as a way to get back at the President. Those are horrible accidents and children should not have to worry about their safety. It should also be a given, people should not be murdered for speaking their minds or for going about their their daily life.

Zap Tharwat--Egypt's hottest rapper and smartest one indeed released a s new song about right and the better tomorrow. He is helped once again by the super indie star Amir Eid from Cairokee band. Amir is a featured guest on the track headlined by Zap Thrwat. A lovely indie song with a first time affects. I love with rock and rap give us a beautiful collaboration.

I love the notebook background with all the stories being told as the songs progresses. The school notebook reminds of those little school children. This is an incredible music video with a touching story and heartwarming lyrics. Those two indie entertainers are too smart to sing for one party and not the other, they are singing about issues rather than politics.

Indie Rock HATE Fest For The Brotherhood Of Egypt

The slackers of Egypt are uniting behind indie rock stars who have been busy attacking the president of Egypt and his party. They all have the right to express their views, and let it be heard what they really think. Activists are now lining behind Ramy Essam, the rock star who calls members of the Muslim Brotherhood party dogs and not in a good way.

Ramy has been waging his own war on the Egyptian presidency, something he clearly has the right to do in any peaceful way. Those whom he attacks have been doing the right thing, by ignoring him and dismissing him. Eventually he will go away, like all the others.

Another dissident voice is rock star Mado who has just released a track accusing the Muslim Brotherhood of being disloyal and known for betrayal and other unkind attributes.

050 Band's Name Taken From Their Towns Area Code

There are few guys who are proud of their Al mansoura town. They wanted to tell their fans, that you no longer have to travel to Cairo and Alexandria to hear good music live. The dudes brought rock music into their town and from that town, they brought their music to the rest of Egypt.

Their formula is making oriental rock, telling Egyptian stories live to the masses. The released singles, and then those singles became an album--which has built up their fan base.

Al Mansoura means the victories, a 120 miles Northeast of Cairo on the other bank of the Nile delta. A city know for its architectural style and unique dialect. The band is extremely proud of their town and they want to have their stamp on the musical scene from their victorious town.

Ragheb Alama "Not Kidding" In His Upcoming Album

While at MBC Egypt's launch gala, the Lebanese super star talked about next album project. It will be titled  "I Am Not Kidding" and it will have seven to eight tracks in a number of Arabic dialect. One of those Dialects will be the Iraqi one, something Ragheb has not done before. Ragheb is one of the few Arab rock stars who have made music only one side of their personality. As he has a hit TV show as a judge on Arab Idol as well as other ventures.

I hope Ragheb gives us a good album, the one before the last one was A, the last one was a B album. While he performed in the MBC gala, the notorious Egyptian dancer Dina performed an act to some of his songs while he was on stage.

Ragheb has been engaged in Lebanon in the aftermath of the bomb that went off there and he has attended the funeral for the government official who have been targeted.

Great Stuff! Breaking The Boundaries "Ya Mn Hawah" (يا من هواه)

Take that sexual love out of the picture, and what you will be able to see will break the boundaries and show you a whole new world. If you are a musician who somehow is able to see beyond the bodily and individual love, you will find a universe of a different kind of love.

Not sure if many bands are able to pull this one, but the ones with a religious purpose find themselves staring such realities in the face and thus their music talks about the whole picture without getting philosophical.

Breaking The Boundaries is the name of that band to show me a new way. For friends who like music as a hobby, they were able to come up with a middle ground. Making rock music without the drama and the fashion show. The makeup of the band is in lead Guitar - Mohab Omar and vocals - new vocal so will be revealed Drums - Omar Raslan Rythem Guitar - Moayed Al qurashy Bass Guitar - Badr Madani

Breaking The Boundaries is a local band with a global audiance hungry to hear of them. they come from the Saudi city of Jeddah. They have only been around since late 2010 and their focus is to play alternative metal / blues / hard and soft rock music. Here's the kicker, the band is formed of medical students who like to do something different in their free times and share their music, lyrics. I saw, welcome and where have you been all my life?
